The Cambridge Rave SceneDuring the
early nineties Cambridge was home to some of the best raves and
dance events this country has ever seen. It soon became the place to
be for partygoers living in the region, as well as attracting people
from far a field. As the scene swept the UK, more and more parties
took place in Cambridge making it a firm favourite with genuine
ravers because of the buzz that was generated there. Historic events
such as the underground do’s held at the Quay Mill Hotel organised
by DJ and promoter collective known as ADI (Alternative Dance
Indulgence) and Kite High parties, one of Cambridge’s longest
running organisations have now become legendary. Unfortunately no
more, they have gone forever and nothing like them can be found
today. Ask anyone who was there back then and they will agree.

Some of the biggest raves held in Cambridge were at the Kelsey
Kerridge venue in the city centre. A massive sports complex boasting
two large halls that accommodated up to over 2000 dance crazed
revellers. Many different organisations held events here including
Bliss and Protein, but it was ‘Love Of Life’ that people will
remember who made it their home. The amount of hard work and effort
that went into organising these events is phenomenal. From the
initial stages of licence application, to designing and printing the
flyers. Then there is the task of promotion as well as production
meetings right through to the setting up on the day.
As well as a host of different illegal warehouse raves in the early
stages, Cambridge was also home to a lot of one-off gigs that caught
the imagination. As the scene progressed some of the bigger
promoters got in on the act including Hyperbolic, Cryptonite and the
mighty Raindance.
To Be Continued……………………..
Here is a collection of flyers showing the wide variety of different
events that were held in the Cambridge area.
